September Might Be My Favourite Month in Lefkada

I'm going to say something that might upset the July & August crowd...
September might just be my favourite month in Lefkada.
Don't get me wrong. I love the height of summer.
The marina is buzzing, the town is packed, every pontoon seems to have something happening and there are boats constantly coming and going. It's what summer in Lefkada is all about.
But then September arrives.
And everything seems to slow down... just a little.
Summer Isn't Over
That's probably my favourite thing about September here.
It still feels like summer.
The boats are still out. The tavernas are still busy. People are still swimming, sailing, anchoring in their favourite bays and sitting outside long after the sun has gone down.
But some of that August madness has disappeared.
You can arrive somewhere without feeling like you're competing with half of Europe for a spot.
The roads are a little quieter.
The anchorages start opening up.
And Lefkada seems to get a little bit of breathing room again.
I think sometimes people mentally write off the Mediterranean once August finishes.
Here in Lefkada, that always feels far too early.
September isn't the end of summer.
If anything, it's one of the nicest parts of it.
You still have that wonderful feeling of stepping outside in the morning and knowing there's a good chance the day will end somewhere near the water.
Only now, things are a little calmer.
A little easier.
And perhaps a little more enjoyable because of it.
It's Also an Interesting Month in the Office
Of course, September doesn't mean things suddenly become quiet for me.
Quite the opposite.
It's actually a really interesting time in yacht brokerage (and i'm blessed to say, a busy time for me).
Owners have just spent another summer onboard and start thinking about what comes next.
Some have decided they want something bigger.
Some want something smaller.
Some are ready for something completely different.
And others have simply reached the end of another fantastic season and decided that perhaps it's time for someone else to enjoy their yacht.
At the same time, buyers start appearing with a different mindset.
The summer dream has become a little more real.
Maybe they've spent two weeks chartering.
Maybe they've been onboard a friend's yacht.
Maybe they've spent the whole summer saying:
"One day..."
And now they're starting to wonder whether that day could be next summer.
Those conversations tend to start around this time of year.
Maybe That's Why I Like it?
Perhaps it's because I live here year-round that I've come to appreciate September so much.
I love seeing Lefkada busy.
I love the energy summer brings to the island and the marina.
But I also love that moment when things begin to settle.
You can still enjoy everything that makes summer here special, just at a slightly slower pace.
And after a very busy few months of boats, buyers, sellers, viewings, surveys, sea trials and everything else that comes with yacht brokerage in the middle of the Mediterranean...
I don't mind that at all.
So yes.
September might just be my favourite month in Lefkada.
Although ask me again when I'm sitting by the fire in January dreaming about July...
I may have changed my mind.
