YACHT CHARTER GUIDE
HOW TO CHARTER?
When deciding to charter, the most important aspects to consider are:
-
Which dates/ period of time would you like to charter?
-
Are you cruising with family or friends?
-
How many guests will be on board?

Once you know these points, our resident Yacht Charter Specialist at Yacht Partners International will work together with you to compile everything. When you reach a decision, a written proposal which outlines the Charter Agreement, will be sent to you. The Charter Agreement defines the terms and conditions, and the obligations and rights of each party.
WHAT IS THE PAYMENT POLICY?
The payment terms are usually in two installments:
- The first installment is 50% of the charter fee upon signature of the charter agreement.Â
- The second installment is the remaining 50% of the charter fee + APA + Delivery fees (if applicable). This is required at least 7 days before the charter commences.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?
The price includes the fee for the actual charter of the yacht itself, insurance of the yacht and crew, the crew service, basic consumable supplies and cleaning materials, use of tenders and other water sports equipment, bed linen and towels.
WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?
The price does not include VAT, the cost of fuel, moorings, marina fee's and the provisioning of the yacht.
WHAT IS APA?
APA = Advanced Provisioning Allowance
This is an advance payment for the running costs (the fuel for the yacht, tenders and toys, berth fee's, dock water and energy and food and beverage for the charterer's party and crew) used during the charter period.
This is due to be paid at the time of the final charter payment, which allows time for the captain and crew to plan and personalise your charter before you arrive.
APA is calculated at 25% of the charter fee, which on average is sufficient to run a charter vacation. That being said, depending on the fuel consumed or certain provisionings chosen, the captain may ask you to re-provision the APA during the charter period.
Before disembarkation, the captain will provide you with the final expense report, accompanied with the receipts available, and return the remaining APA funds, or inform you of the outstanding balance that will have to be paid in cash.
WHAT ARE DELIVERY FEE'S & HOW ARE THEY CALCULATED?
Delivery fee's apply when your charter starts/ ends in a port other than the homeport of the chosen yacht. The fuel costs used for relocating the yacht to the port of your choice will be charged.
HOW LONG DOES THE CHARTER LAST?
Most charters last 7 days.Â
It might be possible to charter the yacht for less than 7 days if the yacht is available.Â
If you have any special requests for the duration of a charter, please get in touch with our resident Charter Specialist.
CHECK-IN & CHECK-OUT TIMES
The customary check-in time for yachts is from 17:00 on the starting day, with check-out from 09:00 on the final day.
HOW MUCH SHOULD I TIP THE CREW?
While crew tips are not obligatory, it's customary in the charter industry to leave between 5%-15% of the Charter Fee.
CAN I SPECIFY ANY PREFERENCES TO HAVE ON BOARD?
Of course. Your charter is catered specifically to your individual needs and wants. In order to receive your preferences, roughly 1 month before you embark on the charter, our charter specialist will have you fill out a Preference List. Here you can fill out special requests, dietary requirements, allergies etc.
CAN I SMOKE ON BOARD THE YACHT?
Smoking is not permitted inside the yacht. You will be held responsible for any damage caused by a smoker, and the captain is entitled to use APA funds to repair or replace the damaged items.Â
Smoking is usually allowed on the outside deck, but you can ask the captain specifically.
ARE PETS ALLOWED ON BOARD?
Unfortnately, no pets are allowed on board.
